Two months after India clamped a lockdown to counter the spread of the coronavirus, the Sangeet Natak Akademi launched a series of online classes on the various arts in the country. Launched on May 26, 2020, the ongoing programme titled ‘Deeksha’ effectively showcases a range of the subcontinent’s performance heritage.
The series opens up not just the experiential aesthetics of the arts. It has scholars and teachers talking on the training lessons as well. The verbal language could be regional, but fellow speakers translate the essence into English.
The government-run SNA, set in 1953 and headquartered in the national capital of Delhi, is India’s apex cultural organisation for performing arts.
