Sooryakanthi, the Thrissur-based cultural outfit, is celebrating the first anniversary of its unique project ‘Saparya’ on June 6 and 7. Saparya was launched with the specific object of promoting and disseminating Mohiniyattam. The two shows held earlier vouch for the commitment of the organisation for this purpose.
The annual celebrations to be held at Regional Theatre, Thrissur captioned “Marga and Parinathi” will explore the aesthetics and transcendence in Mohiniyattam. Further, it will bring together the elder and younger practitioners belonging to all styles, for discussions, lecture-demonstrations and performances on the two days.
The programmes will be inaugurated jointly by the Gurus including Padmasree Kalamandalam Kshemavathy, Padmasree Kalamandalam Vimala Menon, Kala Vijayan, Sreedevi Rajan, Dr. Kalamandalam Sugandhi Prabhu and Kalmandalam Hymavathi at 9,30am on June 6.
Technical sessions that are to follow entail talks and lecture demonstrations by Dr Geetha Sivakumar, Vinita Nedungadi, Dr Neena Prasad, Dr RLV Ramakrishnan. The day’s programme will conclude with a Mohiniyattam concert by the students of Sooryakanthi as a tribute to Kalamandalam Sathyabhama.
Programmes on June 7 begin with lecture and presentation by Kalamandalam Kshemavathy to be followed by Dr. Salini Harikumar, Sandra Pisharody, Vinaya Narayanan, Dr. Divya Nedungadi and Dr. Kalamandalam and Nikhila Vinod.
A paper presentation by Methyl Devika after, two dance based Films Kavattom and Heartsutra, curetted by her will be screened. Judging from the varied programmes, the project seems unprecedented in the history of the dance form.
The programme is organized in association with the Department of Bharatanatyam of St Teresa’s College, Ernakulum.
