On his 91st birthday, which falls on October 17, Sarod Maestro Pandit Rajeev Taranath is performing a concert at Ravindra Kalakshetra in Bangalore from 6 P.M to 8:30 P.M. The concert is organized by the Pandit Taranath Foundation in collaboration with the Department of Kannada and Culture (Government of Karnataka). Tablist Udayraj Karpur from Bangalore will accompany him. The event will also have notable guests, including Kannada writer and Jnanpith award winner Dr. Chandrasekhar Kambar, South Indian Cinema music director Hamsalekha, Carnatic Veena Vidwan Balakrishna, and others.
Pandit Rajeev Taranath, a disciple of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, is a versatile artist. In addition to his musical prowess, he has made significant contributions to English and Kannada literature and has worked in Indian cinema. He has received prestigious honors and awards, such as the Padmashri, Sangeet Natak Akademi, and Chowdiah awards, throughout his illustrious career. To preserve his gharana’s tradition and promote Hindustani classical music in Karnataka, he established the Pandit Taranath Foundation.
